Julia Bristow began creating jewelry in 2006 when she was introduced to vintage jewelry collecting by her sister. She originally collected vintage/antique costume jewelry because she found it appealed to the “little girl” in her to collect these sparkling rhinestone treasures and place them in a jewelry box, as they were pretty and fun to look at. She eventually realized she was drawn to the artistic nature of the signed, handwoven pieces with intricate designs by designers such as Miriam Haskell, which clearly demonstrated the detailed workmanship of these various artisans. She learned some jewelry assembly techniques and attended schooling in jewelry design, and was inspired to create vintage-style items with her own touch using today’s quality materials. The jewelry designs are inspired by Julia’s love of nature and every attempt is made to incorporate that beauty directly into each piece created. Having lived most of her life near the ocean and currently in the Sierra National Forest, all of her designs are inspired by nature – ocean, sand, forest, trees, flowers, rocks, water and sky. She always has some species of plant, flower, or tree, or a scene in nature in mind to recreate in a piece of jewelry. Semi-precious gemstone beads, shell, and wood beads are among her favorite beads to work with because they come directly from nature and rocks of the earth. She enjoys the beauty and feel of each individual bead as no two gemstone beads are exactly alike. Her designs are based more on an artistic idea rather than any type of fashion trend. She also specializes in fruit jewelry pieces which have been featured in Elle, Cosmopolitan, Fashion, and Foam Magazines – tropical Carmen Miranda style!

Julia Bristow Jewelry is unique and elegant, hand-crafted, nature-inspired, one-of-a-kind, “wearable art” jewelry. Every piece is hand-crafted by artisan/designer, Julia Bristow, in her home studio and signed with an engraved hangtag. All jewelry pieces are hand-wired or woven and meticulously pieced together using a variety of high-quality semi-precious gemstone beads, sparkling Swarovski crystals, Czech glass flowers, fruit, and leaves, individually chosen lampwork glass pendants, various freshwater pearls, shells and mother of pearl, polymer clay, natural wood, seed, and coconut beads.
