March Member of The Month: Vicki Thomas

Shannon Grissom and Vicki Thomas

Hearty congratulations go to Vicki Thomas, our Member of the Month for March 2016!  Though her official title is Secretary,  she does so much more for YWA.  Vicki coordinates the models for our Friday sessions, secures demonstrators for our monthly meetings, and ensures supplies are always in stock.

She prepares The Gertrude for each meeting, and cleans up once the meeting is done. She even takes the trash home!

Vicki is quick with a smile and encouragement, and never hesitates to share opportunities with others. We are truly lucky to have her on board!

I’m happy to report that she just signed a 7 book deal:

Vicki Thomas, a Mariposa artist, has signed a seven-book contract with HBE Publishing in Clovis.  “I’m thrilled,” the author/artist says. “I’ve been working on my fantasy series for about a decade, although there have been several long interruptions. I feel privileged that my dreams are now coming true.”  Her series, The Mystical Forest, is for middle grade and tween readers.
The first book in the series, The Long Dark Cloak, is expected to be released in September or October. Vicki is anticipating a ‘launch’ in late October, 2016.  “Some of my artwork will be used for graphic chapter headings,” she says, “and the forest map will become the book’s fly leaf, front and back.

Vicki belongs to several local art clubs and teaches watercolor to both young people and adults.

Artist’s Statement:

“I believe that my love for drawing and painting has come from my inner need to create. It’s a wonderful feeling to be totally involved in the process of painting and then to experience the surprising and delightful results.”
